Xmind
Mind mapping app with an AI agent that builds maps through chat
Xmind is a personal productivity tool for Freelancers and Small businesses, offered as freemium. Popular alternatives include Display, Obsidian, XWiki.
About Xmind
Xmind is a mind mapping and brainstorming app developed since 2006 and now published by SUPERMIND PTE. LIMITED, which says more than 100 million people have used it. It turns ideas, notes and plans into mind maps, timelines, matrices and other structures, with an outliner and a Pitch mode for presenting, on desktop, mobile and the web.
Xmind also covers lightweight project work: topics become tasks with assignees, and an editable Gantt chart exports tasks to Excel or calendar files. Maps export to PNG, SVG, PDF, Markdown and Office formats. Free allows 10 online maps with PNG export only; Pro ($4.92 a month billed yearly) allows 50 maps and clean exports; Premium ($8.25 a month billed yearly) adds unlimited maps, real-time collaboration, Gantt editing and 500 AI credits a month.
Xmind suits students, consultants and planners who think in hierarchies and want a polished app that also keeps files locally. Miro is a broader whiteboard for live workshops, and Lucidchart is stronger for flowcharts and technical diagrams. Collaboration and monthly AI credits sit behind Premium, and complex agent tasks can use dozens of credits.
On November 2, 2026 Xmind launched Xmind 2027 on Product Hunt and finished #2 of the day. The release centers on Xmind Agent, which builds and edits maps through conversation from an idea, a document, a link or a Notion page, and on Xmind MCP, which lets Claude, Claude Code, Codex and ChatGPT read and edit your maps. Buying tip: Premium's 7-day trial applies only to yearly billing, so test the agent with the free credits first.

Our take
Xmind remains one of the most complete mind mapping apps, and Xmind 2027 makes AI a practical part of it through the agent and MCP. Premium on yearly billing is the plan to buy if you want collaboration and regular AI use; Pro is enough for solo mapping and clean exports.
