Scribe

Auto-generated step-by-step guides and SOPs from screen activity

Scribe is a product adoption & onboarding tool for Small businesses and Enterprise, offered as freemium ($17/mo). Founded in United States in 2019.

About Scribe

Scribe turns a process you click through into a written, step-by-step guide. It is built by Colony Labs, Inc., a San Francisco company founded in 2019 by Jennifer Smith (CEO) and Aaron Podolny (CTO), and it says more than 7 million people use it. You start a recording in the browser extension or desktop app, do the task once, and Scribe produces annotated screenshots with an instruction for every click and keystroke.

Guides can be edited, merged into longer documents, branded and exported to PDF, HTML or Markdown. Enterprise adds automatic PII and PHI redaction, SSO, roles and translations. A second product, Scribe Optimize, analyses how work actually flows across apps to surface bottlenecks and automation candidates. The free Basic plan covers web apps only; Pro Personal and Pro Team are priced per seat and add the desktop app, branding and export, with Pro Team requiring at least five seats.

Scribe fits operations, IT, customer success and training teams that document software processes and onboard people often. It captures what happened, not why, so writers still need to add context, and plans apply to the whole team, so you cannot mix free and paid users. Loom suits narrated video explanations better, while Whatfix and Stonly deliver in-app walkthroughs inside the product rather than separate documents.

In November 2025 Scribe raised a reported $75 million Series C at a $1.3 billion valuation and is pushing workflow data to AI agents through MCP and an API. The pricing page has shown two different Pro Team rates, so confirm the per-seat price at checkout.
