Papermark
Open-source document sharing and virtual data rooms with analytics
Papermark is a file storage & sharing tool for Small businesses and Enterprise, offered as open source ($35/mo). Popular alternatives include Tresorit, Proton Drive, Nextcloud.
About Papermark
Papermark is an open-source DocSend alternative for sharing sensitive documents and running virtual data rooms, co-founded by Marc Seitz and Iuliia Shnai. Founders, funds and deal teams send decks and diligence files through tracked links or branded rooms and see who read each page. Core code is AGPLv3 on GitHub; enterprise folders use a commercial license.
Links can require an email, password, NDA or allow list, and support expiry, download blocking, screenshot protection and dynamic watermarks. Rooms add file-level permissions, groups, Q&A, upload requests, an audit log and white-labelling on your domain, plus a public API, CLI and MCP server. The vendor lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and GDPR. Pro and Business cover document sharing; four Data Rooms tiers add users, Q&A, AI redaction and SSO.
It fits startups raising money, small funds and M&A teams that want published flat pricing. DocSend is the closest rival, Box is broader file storage with secure sharing, and PandaDoc focuses on proposals and e-signature. Q&A and the audit log start at Data Rooms Plus, SSO at Premium, and self-hosting needs your own Postgres, storage and email setup.
On October 25, 2026 Papermark launched Papermark Data Rooms on Product Hunt and finished #9 of the day. The release aims to set up a room in under 60 seconds and lets AI agents create rooms, folders, permissions and share links through the API, CLI and MCP server. Buying tip: the pricing page defaults to euros, so switch it to USD, and use the 7-day Data Rooms Plus trial to test Q&A first.
