Dessn

Design canvas that runs your production codebase

Dessn is a design tools tool for Small businesses and Enterprise, offered as freemium ($30/mo). Popular alternatives include Developer Tools, Clayzo, Zeplin.

About Dessn

Dessn is a design canvas that runs a team's real codebase, founded in Montréal and now growing in London, with Gabriella Hachem as co-founder and co-CEO and Nim Cheema as co-founder. Instead of redrawing screens in a separate design file, designers, PMs and engineers pull live product pages onto a canvas, explore changes and prototype on top of the components and design system that already ship.

You connect a GitHub or GitLab repository with read-only access, Dessn compiles it, and pages and states appear on the canvas, with the first page usually ready in minutes and a full compile taking about 30 minutes. It supports React, Vue.js, Electron and React Native apps. Teams map full user flows, audit the product for drifting patterns in one prompt, comment and branch together, and share prototypes for reviews, user tests or demos. An MCP server brings canvases and the code behind them into Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. It never pushes code back. Free has 20 credits a month, Pro is $30 per editor a month with 100 credits, and viewers are free on every plan.

It fits product teams with an existing frontend. Figma remains the better tool for early exploration before code exists, v0 generates new UI from prompts rather than from your codebase, and Framer is aimed at marketing sites. The 20 and 100 credit allowances may limit heavy AI use, and unsupported stacks are out.

Dessn launched on Product Hunt on November 4, 2026 and was ranked #10 on Product Hunt's daily leaderboard for that date. Buying tip: test on one repo on Free, since compile time and credit use vary by codebase.

Key features of Dessn

  • Live production pages and states pulled onto a shared canvas
  • Read-only GitHub and GitLab connection; no code pushed back
  • Supports React, Vue.js, Electron and React Native apps
  • Full user flow maps built from the real app
  • One-prompt audits that find inconsistent UI patterns
  • Comments, branching and shareable prototypes for reviews and tests
  • MCP server for Claude Code, Codex and Cursor

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Designs stay in sync with what is actually in production
  • Unlimited free viewer seats on every plan
  • No local IDE setup needed for designers and PMs
  • SOC 2 Type II compliant, and customer code is not used for training
  • Prototypes use the real design system, which shortens handoff

Cons

  • Only useful once a frontend codebase exists
  • Limited to React, Vue.js, Electron and React Native
  • Credit allowances are small on Free and Pro
  • iOS support is still in closed beta
  • Pro is billed per editor, so costs grow with the design team

Our take

Dessn is worth testing for any team tired of design files drifting from production, because it removes the redraw step entirely. Start with one repository on Free and move editors to Pro only if credits and supported stacks fit your workflow.
