Trigger.dev

Open-source platform for durable background jobs and AI agents

Trigger.dev is a developer tools tool for Developers and Small businesses, offered as open source ($10/mo). Based in United Kingdom, founded in 2022. Popular alternatives include Omnara, Composio, Lexmount Browser.

About Trigger.dev

Trigger.dev is an open-source platform for running durable background tasks and AI agents in TypeScript. It is made by a London-based Y Combinator (W23) company founded in 2022 by Matt Aitken, Eric Allam, Dan Patel and James Ritchie, which announced a $16 million Series A in December 2025. Developers write tasks in their own codebase and Trigger.dev runs them with no timeouts.

Tasks get automatic retries, checkpointing, queues with concurrency controls, cron schedules and waitpoints that pause a run for human approval for up to 90 days without charging for the wait. Realtime updates stream progress and LLM output to your frontend, and every run gets logs, tracing and alerts. The code is Apache-2.0 and can be self-hosted with Docker or Kubernetes; the cloud has a free tier and paid plans that include a monthly usage credit, with compute billed per second.

It fits TypeScript teams building AI agents, video or document pipelines and other long jobs that break serverless limits. Windmill covers scripts in many languages with a UI builder, and Pipedream is quicker for low-code API workflows. Tasks are written in TypeScript (Python scripts run via a build extension) and usage costs take work to forecast.

On October 26, 2026 it released Webhooks for AI agents in public beta, and the Product Hunt launch on October 28 was #6 on the daily leaderboard when checked late that day. Webhooks are verified, deduplicated, stored and routed to up to 25 agents, with 40+ providers supported. Buying tip: start on Free, then move to Hobby or Pro once concurrency limits bite.
