About Grammarly
Grammarly is an AI writing assistant founded in 2009 in Kyiv, Ukraine, by Max Lytvyn, Alex Shevchenko and Dmytro Lider, now headquartered in San Francisco. It works wherever people write, through browser extensions, desktop apps for Windows and Mac, mobile keyboards and integrations with tools such as Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Outlook, checking text in real time as you type.
Beyond spelling and grammar, Grammarly flags clarity, conciseness, tone and engagement issues, rewrites whole sentences, adjusts formality, checks plagiarism and citations, and generates or edits text with AI prompts and agents. Business plans add company style guides, brand tones, snippets for reusable text, analytics and SSO. The free plan covers core corrections and a limited number of AI prompts; Pro adds full rewrites and more AI usage; Enterprise adds admin controls and security reviews.
After acquiring Coda in late 2024 and the email client Superhuman in 2025, the company began building a broader AI productivity suite, and in late 2025 it adopted the Superhuman name for the company while keeping Grammarly as a product brand. Grammarly remains strongest in English; in September 2025 it added beta support for Spanish, French, German, Italian and Portuguese, but Turkish is not among the supported writing languages. AI features built into Google Docs and Microsoft 365 cover basics for many users, and QuillBot is a popular, cheaper option for paraphrasing.
