beacon.sh

Open-source memory layer that carries lessons across coding agents

beacon.sh is a developer tools tool for Developers and Enterprise, offered as open source. Based in United States. Popular alternatives include Overmind, Radar, Tessary.

About beacon.sh

beacon.sh (Beacon) is an open-source, MIT-licensed memory and trace layer for AI coding agents from Asymptote Labs, a New York startup co-founded by former Doppel engineers Justin D'Souza and Shukan Shah. It records what Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode and 20+ other harnesses do and turns useful runs, corrections and debugging patterns into reviewed memories and skills any agent can reuse.

A local endpoint for macOS, Windows and Linux normalizes prompts, tool calls, commands, file edits, approvals and token usage into an OpenTelemetry-based format stored as local JSONL. Memories reach agents through MCP and Agent Skills, and events can go to Splunk, Datadog or S3. Beacon Cloud is free with 50 findings; Pro adds unlimited findings and memories over MCP, Team adds a shared namespace and org API keys, and Enterprise adds approval gates, SSO and your own bucket.

It fits developers who switch between coding agents and want repo conventions and fixes to carry over. Context Engine offers shared memory for agents and people but is not built around session capture, and Overmind turns agent traces into models you own rather than reusable skills. Beacon is young, and paid plans show only annual prices.

On November 2, 2026 Beacon launched on Product Hunt as self-improving memory for coding agents and finished #1 of the day. The launch followed Asymptote Labs' $5.5 million seed round led by Tower Research Ventures, announced on October 20, 2026. Buying tip: start with the free local install, and pay for Pro or Team only if you need shared memory across machines.

Key features of beacon.sh

  • Session capture across Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, OpenCode and 20+ other harnesses
  • OpenTelemetry-based event model stored as local JSONL by default
  • Reviewed memories and skills served to agents over MCP and Agent Skills
  • Cloud findings with one-click skills, fix prompts and an evidence trail
  • Full session replay with prompts, commands, edits, approvals and tokens
  • Terminal trace browser and read-only local dashboard
  • Forwarding to Splunk, Datadog, Elastic, Microsoft Sentinel and S3
  • Fleet rollout through Jamf, Intune or Fleet on Enterprise

Pros and cons

Pros

  • MIT-licensed core that runs locally without lock-in to one harness
  • One timeline for every agent and machine, including token spend
  • Turns repeated walkthroughs into skills every agent can reuse
  • Doubles as security telemetry with SIEM export
  • Free cloud tier with session search over MCP

Cons

  • Pro and Team prices are shown only with annual billing
  • Team price is listed as $30 per seat in one place and $40 in the comparison table
  • Free cloud tier caps findings at 50
  • Very young product from a company founded in 2026
  • Approval gates, SSO and audit logs require Enterprise

Common use cases

  1. 1Carrying repo conventions and fixes between Claude Code, Cursor and Codex
  2. 2Turning a debugging session into a reusable skill for the whole team
  3. 3Auditing what coding agents ran, edited and approved on a laptop
  4. 4Tracking token spend across agents and machines
  5. 5Feeding agent activity into an existing SIEM for security review

Best for

Developers and engineering teams using several AI coding agents who want shared, reviewed memory and a full record of agent activity.

Not ideal for

Teams that only need a shared knowledge store for agents and people, or want to train their own models from traces (Context Engine, Overmind).

Integrations

  • Claude Code
  • Cursor
  • Codex
  • OpenCode
  • GitHub Copilot CLI
  • Gemini CLI
  • Datadog
  • Splunk

Our take

Beacon is a strong free starting point if you juggle multiple coding agents and keep re-explaining the same context. Install the open-source endpoint first, and pay for Pro or Team only once shared memory across machines proves useful.
