Deel

Deel is a global HR and payroll platform founded in San Francisco in 2019 by Alex Bouaziz and Shuo Wang. It lets companies hire contractors and full-time employees in more than 150 countries, either through Deel's own employer of record (EOR) entities, where Deel legally employs the worker on your behalf, or through payroll for entities you already own.

The product is modular. Contractor management handles localized contracts, invoices and payouts in many currencies; EOR covers employment contracts, benefits, taxes and statutory filings; Global Payroll consolidates payroll for your own entities; and Deel HR is an HRIS with org charts, time off and documents. Add-ons cover immigration and visa support, equipment provisioning, IT management and engagement tools. Contractor, EOR, payroll and HR modules are each priced per worker per month.

Deel suits remote-first startups and scale-ups hiring across many countries, including Turkey, where it can employ staff without a local company. EOR is expensive per employee, so companies often open their own entity once headcount in one country grows. Support quality varies by country, and the breadth of modules adds complexity. Remote.com and Oyster are direct EOR rivals, Rippling is stronger when US payroll and IT are central, and Gusto is simpler for US-only teams.

Workable

Workable is recruiting software founded in 2012 in Athens, Greece, by Nikos Moraitakis, with offices in Boston and London. It is one of the most widely used applicant tracking systems among small and mid-size businesses, serving tens of thousands of companies that hire without a large recruiting team.

One click publishes a job to more than 200 job boards, social networks and a branded careers page. Candidates move through a visual pipeline with scorecards, team feedback, assessments, video interviews and automated interview scheduling, and offers are sent for e-signature. AI features help write job descriptions, source passive candidates, screen applications and summarize profiles, and texting and email templates speed up communication. Workable has added HR features such as employee records, time off and onboarding so small companies can manage new hires after they join. Plans are Standard, Premier and Enterprise, priced by company size; Premier and Enterprise are annual only.

Workable fits SMBs hiring for many roles, high-volume employers in retail and hospitality, and companies without a dedicated recruiter that need reach and simplicity. It is less customizable than enterprise systems, reporting is basic for large recruiting operations, and costs grow with headcount. Greenhouse and Ashby are preferred by structured, data-driven recruiting teams, Teamtailor emphasizes employer branding, and BambooHR bundles a lighter ATS with its HRIS.

Workable's AI recruiter features have been the main focus of recent releases, aimed at reducing manual screening for small teams.
