Brevo

Brevo, known as Sendinblue until its 2023 rebrand, is a French marketing and sales platform founded in Paris in 2012. It started with email marketing and transactional email and now covers SMS, WhatsApp campaigns, marketing automation, a sales CRM, live chat and landing pages, with a focus on small and mid-sized businesses.

Its pricing model is the main differentiator: marketing plans are based mainly on the volume of emails sent rather than the number of stored contacts, so companies with large but infrequently emailed lists pay much less than with contact-based tools. The free plan stores a large contact list but caps sending at 300 emails per day and adds Brevo branding. Starter removes the daily limit, Business adds marketing automation, A/B testing, send-time optimization and phone support, and Enterprise adds dedicated IPs, SSO, sub-accounts and service levels. Transactional email and SMS are also available through APIs, often used by developers for password resets and order notifications.

Brevo suits European SMBs, e-commerce stores and startups that want email, SMS and a light CRM in one place at a reasonable price, with GDPR-native data handling. Its template editor and automation builder are capable but less refined than the leaders. Mailchimp is more polished but costlier as lists grow, Klaviyo is stronger for Shopify-focused e-commerce, MailerLite is simpler and cheaper for newsletters, and ActiveCampaign offers deeper automation. For transactional email alone, Postmark or Amazon SES are more specialized.

Pipedrive

Pipedrive is a sales CRM founded in 2010 in Tallinn, Estonia, by a team with sales backgrounds, and majority-owned by Vista Equity Partners since 2020. It is designed around the visual pipeline: deals move through stages with drag and drop, every deal shows its next scheduled activity, and the app warns you when a deal has none. That activity-based selling philosophy is why small sales teams adopt it quickly without training.

Over time Pipedrive added two-way email sync and templates, workflow automations, a Leads Inbox fed by web forms and the LeadBooster chatbot add-on, a meeting scheduler, revenue forecasting, documents and e-signatures, and an AI sales assistant that suggests next steps and summarizes email threads. Campaigns adds email marketing as a paid add-on, project tracking for post-sale work is included on higher tiers, and a marketplace offers hundreds of integrations. Pricing is per seat; in 2025 Pipedrive replaced its five older tiers (Essential, Advanced, Professional, Power and Enterprise) with four plans, Lite, Growth, Premium and Ultimate, and most teams need at least Growth for automation and reporting.

Pipedrive fits small and mid-size B2B sales teams, agencies and service businesses that want a CRM salespeople actually use. Its marketing and service features are thin compared with HubSpot, reporting is less flexible than Salesforce, and add-ons raise the real cost. HubSpot is better when marketing and sales share one platform, Zoho CRM offers more customization for less money, and Close suits high-volume calling teams.
