Asana

Asana is a work management platform founded in 2008 by Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein, headquartered in San Francisco and listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 2020. It helps organizations coordinate projects and programs across departments, connecting day-to-day tasks with company goals.

Work lives in projects that can be viewed as a list, board, timeline, Gantt chart or calendar, with custom fields, dependencies, milestones and forms for intake. Portfolios roll up the status of many projects for leadership, Goals link work to company objectives, Workload shows team capacity, and approvals handle sign-off. Rules and the workflow builder automate assignments, handoffs and status updates, while integrations with Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace and many other tools keep work connected. Asana AI summarizes projects, drafts updates and, through AI Studio, lets teams add AI steps to workflows. The free Personal plan covers one or two people; Starter adds timeline and the workflow builder, Advanced adds portfolios, goals and workload, and Enterprise tiers add security and admin controls.

Asana is strongest for marketing, operations, product and cross-functional programs where clarity of ownership matters more than heavy customization. Costs rise noticeably at Advanced, where the planning features live. monday.com is more visual and flexible for building custom boards, ClickUp packs more features per dollar but requires more setup, and engineering teams usually prefer Jira or Linear for software delivery.

Teamwork.com

Teamwork.com is a project management platform built for client work, made by Teamwork, a company founded in 2007 in Cork, Ireland, by Peter Coppinger and Dan Mackey. It began as Teamwork Projects and later took the Teamwork.com name after buying the domain. Its core job is helping agencies, consultancies and professional services teams deliver client projects on time and on budget, not just track tasks.

Beyond tasks in list, board, Gantt and table views, Teamwork.com includes native time tracking, billable rates, time budgets and retainers, workload and capacity planning, intake forms, invoicing from logged time, client users and profitability reporting. The free plan allows up to 5 users and 5 projects. Basics adds billable time and reporting, Accelerate adds workload, budgets and invoicing with HubSpot and QuickBooks sync, and the quoted Optimize and Enterprise plans add quotes, resource planning by role, profitability and SSO. Teamwork also sells a separate helpdesk, Teamwork Desk.

It fits agencies that bill by the hour or retainer and want time, budgets and resourcing in the same tool as tasks. Asana and monday.com are more flexible for internal teams but need add-ons for billing; Wrike and ClickUp cover more use cases with less agency focus. Minimum seat counts and the move of key features to Accelerate make it pricier for very small teams.

Recent change: in March 2026 Teamwork.com renamed its tiers, with Deliver becoming Basics and Grow becoming Accelerate, and raised the annual discount to about 29%, so older reviews quote different plan names and prices.
