Clay

Clay is a go-to-market data platform from a New York company that works like a spreadsheet for prospecting and enrichment. You import or source lists of companies and people, and each column can call an external data provider, an AI agent or a formula, so a row fills itself with firmographics, contact details, technology data and custom research.

Its best-known feature is waterfall enrichment: Clay queries more than 100 providers in sequence until one returns, for example, a verified email, and you spend credits only on results. Claygent is an AI research agent that visits websites and answers custom questions, such as whether a company sells to enterprises or has a free trial. Signals track job changes, hiring and funding, and results sync to CRMs such as HubSpot and Salesforce and to sequencing tools. Plans are tiered by monthly credits, starting with a limited free plan, and credit consumption is the main cost driver.

Clay fits revenue operations teams, outbound sales teams and agencies that work at volume and can invest time in building tables. The learning curve is real, poorly designed tables burn credits, and for a simple lead list it is overkill. Apollo combines a contact database with sequencing in a simpler package, ZoomInfo is the enterprise data incumbent, and Cognism is strong for European contact data. An ecosystem of Clay agencies and consultants has grown around the product because setup skill matters so much.

Hevo Data

Hevo Data is a managed, no-code ELT platform that moves data from SaaS apps, databases and files into cloud warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery and Redshift. It was founded in 2017 by Manish Jethani and Sourabh Agarwal, operates from San Francisco and Bengaluru, and says it serves more than 2,000 customers and processes over a petabyte of data a month.

Hevo offers 170+ prebuilt connectors, change data capture (CDC) for near real-time database replication, automatic schema handling and a reliability layer with monitoring and alerts. Transformations run as dbt, SQL or Hevo Transformer jobs on top of the loaded data. ConnectAI, in early access, builds new connectors from REST API docs. It lists SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA and DORA compliance. Pricing is based on monthly events (rows) with a free tier, two self-serve paid plans and a custom Business Critical tier.

Hevo fits SMB and mid-size data teams that want Fivetran-style simplicity with more predictable, event-based pricing. Fivetran has a much larger connector catalog and deeper enterprise features, Airbyte is open source and self-hostable for engineering-heavy teams, Stitch is a simpler legacy option, and Estuary focuses on real-time streaming.

Buying tip: the free plan covers up to 1 million events but with limited connectors and hourly scheduling, so it is mainly for testing. Starter at $299 a month includes 5 million events, and usage above quota is billed on demand, so estimate your monthly changed rows first. Annual plans save about 12 percent, and the 14-day trial needs no card.
