Better Auth
Better Auth is an open-source authentication and authorization library for TypeScript, distributed under the MIT license. Instead of sending users to a hosted identity service, it runs inside your own backend and stores users, sessions and accounts in your own database through adapters for Drizzle, Prisma, Kysely, MongoDB and plain SQL drivers. It is framework-agnostic, with integrations for Next.js, Nuxt, SvelteKit, Astro, Hono, Express and others, and typed clients for React, Vue, Svelte, Solid and vanilla JavaScript.
The core covers email and password, social OAuth providers and session management; a plugin system adds two-factor authentication, passkeys, magic links, email OTP, username login, organizations with teams and roles, admin tools, multi-session, API keys, JWT, an OIDC provider and more. A CLI generates the schema and migrations each plugin needs. The library is free with no per-user pricing; an optional managed service (free Starter, $20/month Pro) adds a dashboard.
Better Auth suits TypeScript teams that want control over user data and login flows without writing auth from scratch. The trade-off is responsibility: you handle hosting, security updates and email delivery, and the core ships no prebuilt UI components. Clerk and Auth0 provide hosted UI, dashboards and enterprise SSO for a per-user fee; Supabase Auth is convenient if you already use Supabase; Auth.js (NextAuth) is the older open-source option with fewer built-in features.
The project grew quickly in 2024 and 2025 as Lucia was deprecated.
Dynatrace
Dynatrace is an enterprise observability platform that monitors applications, infrastructure, logs, user experience and runtime security from one data store. It began in 2005 as dynaTrace software in Linz, Austria, and has traded on the NYSE since 2019, with headquarters now in the United States. Its core job is pinpointing which service or dependency caused an incident.
The platform rests on OneAgent, a single agent that auto-instruments hosts, containers and code; Smartscape, a live dependency map; Grail, a data lakehouse queried with DQL; and a causal AI engine that groups alerts into root-cause problems. Pricing is a rate card drawn down from an annual commitment: about $29 per host per month for infrastructure monitoring, $58 per 8 GiB host for full-stack APM, plus usage fees for logs, traces and user sessions.
Dynatrace suits large enterprises with hybrid or Kubernetes estates that want automatic discovery and fewer noisy alerts. It is heavy for a startup with a few services, and the consumption model needs careful forecasting. Datadog is easier to adopt piecemeal, New Relic offers a free tier with user-based pricing, and Grafana Cloud suits teams that prefer open-source Prometheus and OpenTelemetry tooling.
In early 2026 Dynatrace launched Dynatrace Intelligence, which it calls an agentic operations system: it combines its deterministic causal AI with agents that can investigate and act within guardrails for SRE, development and security teams. Before buying, run the 15-day trial on a production-like cluster to estimate host-hours and log volume.
