Akinon

Akinon is an enterprise commerce platform founded in Istanbul that serves large brands and retailers in Turkey, the Middle East and Europe. It provides the building blocks a retailer needs to run complex omnichannel operations: headless storefronts, an order management system (OMS), product information management (PIM), marketplace integrations, mobile apps and tools that connect online sales with physical stores.

Because it is headless and API-first, brands can build their own storefront experience while Akinon runs the commerce engine underneath. The OMS routes orders across warehouses and stores, supporting scenarios such as click and collect, ship from store and cross-channel returns. The PIM centralizes product content and pushes it to the web store, mobile apps and marketplaces, while marketplace integrations manage listings, stock and orders on major regional platforms from one place. Pricing is enterprise and quote-based, and projects usually involve an implementation phase with Akinon or a partner agency.

Akinon fits large fashion, retail and consumer brands that have outgrown SaaS storefronts and need to orchestrate stock and orders across many channels and countries. It is far more than a small or mid-size shop needs, and the budget and project timeline reflect that. Salesforce Commerce Cloud, commercetools and Shopify Plus are the main international alternatives, while ikas and Ideasoft serve smaller Turkish merchants.

Snipcart

Snipcart is a developer-first shopping cart that adds e-commerce to any website with HTML attributes and a JavaScript snippet. It was founded in Quebec City, Canada, and acquired by the website builder Duda in 2021. Instead of moving a site onto a commerce platform, developers mark up buy buttons in their existing HTML, and Snipcart overlays a customisable cart and checkout on the page.

Products are defined in your markup and validated by crawling your pages, so the store fits static sites built with Hugo, Gatsby, Next.js, Astro or any headless CMS. Snipcart supports physical and digital goods, subscriptions, discounts, taxes, shipping rate integrations, multiple currencies and webhooks, and offers a merchant dashboard for orders, customers and abandoned carts. Payments run through gateways such as Stripe and PayPal. Pricing is a 2 percent transaction fee on top of payment processor fees, with a monthly minimum for low-volume stores.

Snipcart fits developers and agencies building custom-designed stores on Jamstack sites who do not want platform lock-in. It needs a developer for setup and changes, the admin is lighter than full commerce platforms, and the ecosystem of apps and themes is small. Shopify with its Buy Button or headless storefront options is the mainstream route, Foxy.io is a similar cart-as-a-service, and Lemon Squeezy or Gumroad are simpler when you only sell digital products.
