Airtable
Airtable is a cloud platform, founded in San Francisco in 2012 by Howie Liu and two co-founders, that blends the familiar interface of a spreadsheet with the structure of a relational database. Tables link to each other, fields have types such as attachments, single selects, lookups, rollups and formulas, and the same records can be viewed as a grid, kanban, calendar, gallery, form, Gantt chart or timeline.
On top of the data, Interface Designer builds dashboards and lightweight apps for people who should not edit raw tables, automations run actions on triggers and schedules, and syncs bring in data from other bases or tools. AI fields categorize records, summarize text and generate content inside the base. The free plan allows unlimited bases with 1,000 records each and five editors; Team raises limits to 50,000 records per base and adds Gantt and timeline views; Business adds 125,000 records, premium syncs, an admin panel and SAML SSO; and Enterprise Scale is custom-priced with HyperDB and enterprise APIs.
Airtable powers content calendars, product catalogs, lightweight CRMs, inventories, applicant trackers and production schedules at thousands of companies, and it shines when non-developers need a structured database they can build themselves. In recent years it moved upmarket and raised prices, which pushed small teams toward open-source or cheaper options such as Baserow, NocoDB and Grist, or to Notion databases for document-heavy work. Per-seat pricing, record limits per base and automation run limits are the main constraints to check before adopting.
Lovable
Lovable is an AI app builder from Stockholm, Sweden, founded in 2023 by Anton Osika and Fabian Hedin. It grew out of GPT Engineer, an open-source code generation project that became one of the most-starred AI repositories on GitHub, and was renamed Lovable in late 2024. In December 2025 it raised a $330 million Series B at a $6.6 billion valuation. Its core job is turning a plain-language description into a working web app that users keep editing by chat.
Lovable generates React and TypeScript front ends, connects back ends through Lovable Cloud or Supabase for databases, authentication and storage, adds payments with Stripe, and deploys apps with one click to a lovable.app subdomain or a custom domain. Users can edit visually, sync code to GitHub and switch to their own IDE. Plans are priced by monthly credits rather than seats, and workspaces allow unlimited members. The free tier gives 5 build credits a day; Pro starts at 100 credits with custom domains and code editing; Business adds SSO and design templates.
Lovable fits founders, product managers and designers building prototypes, MVPs and internal tools fast. Bubble and FlutterFlow give more visual control and mature hosting for complex apps; Softr is simpler for apps on top of Airtable or Google Sheets. Credit use grows fast on large or messy projects, and generated code still needs review for security and maintainability.
Buying tip: monthly credits expire two months after issue and annual credits one month after the term ends, so buy the smallest tier that covers real usage and top up when needed.
