LILT

LILT is an enterprise translation and localization platform from San Francisco, founded in 2015 by Spence Green and John DeNero, NLP researchers from Stanford and Berkeley. It began with adaptive machine translation that learns from each linguist edit and has since become an agentic AI platform that routes content through AI models and, where needed, human subject-matter experts. Customers include Canva, Intel, Lenovo and US defence agencies.

The platform is split into modules: Translate for projects, Assist for AI agents that automate review and workflows, Verify for accuracy checks, Connect for integrations and an MCP server that brings LILT translation into ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. It connects to more than 100 systems such as Contentful, AEM, Salesforce and Zendesk, and can run LILT's own models or a customer's LLM. Certifications cover SOC 2 Type II, ISO 9001 and ISO 17100, with private, on-prem and air-gapped deployment. Business, Enterprise and Government plans are all quote-based.

LILT fits large companies and public bodies that translate high volumes of product, support and marketing content and need quality guarantees or strict data control. It has no self-serve plan or public pricing, so it is overkill for small sites. Smartling is a broader translation management system with a vendor marketplace, Phrase offers self-serve TMS tiers, and DeepL is the cheap option for raw machine translation without human review.

LILT raised a Series D in mid-2025. Buying tip: ask how human review is priced versus platform fees, since MCP usage is quoted separately.

Locize

Locize is a translation management system and localization CDN made by inweso GmbH, a small Swiss company whose founders created the i18next JavaScript library in 2011. Locize launched in 2016 as a backend that delivers translations to running apps without a redeploy, and it marked ten years in May 2026. Its core job is continuous localization: developers push keys, translators work in a web editor, and published texts reach users straight from a CDN.

The editor covers versions, history, permissions and statuses, plus an in-context editor that lets translators edit text on the live page. Translations are served through a Standard CDN (BunnyCDN) or a Pro CDN on AWS CloudFront, and machine and AI translation can use your reference language, glossary and style guide. Growth and higher plans add a review workflow, branches and tenants. Pricing is a fixed monthly plan sized by CDN downloads, words, languages and namespaces, with $5 usage blocks for extra words and downloads on higher tiers.

Locize suits JavaScript teams already on i18next, React, Next.js, Vue or Nuxt who want to change copy without shipping new builds. Lokalise and Phrase offer broader file formats, design-tool integrations and enterprise workflows, Crowdin is stronger for community and open-source translation, and Tolgee is an open-source, self-hostable option. Locize is lean and developer-first but has fewer integrations outside the web stack.

Buying tip: on every paid plan below Enterprise, going past 110% of included standard CDN downloads blocks the project, so estimate traffic carefully.
