Frigade
Frigade is a developer-first platform for building in-app onboarding and user engagement experiences. Instead of injecting an overlay script that sits on top of your interface, as traditional digital adoption tools do, Frigade provides a React SDK and components (checklists, product tours, announcements, banners, forms and surveys) that render inside your application and inherit your design system, so onboarding looks native rather than bolted on.
Engineers place components in the codebase once, and product or growth teams then manage content, targeting and sequencing from the Frigade dashboard without new deployments. Flows can be targeted by user properties, events and lifecycle stage, chained together into collections, and measured with completion analytics. A headless mode and APIs let teams build fully custom UI while still using Frigade for state, targeting and tracking, and events can be sent to the analytics stack the team already uses. Frigade no longer lists a free tier: the Growth plan starts at $1,000 a month and Enterprise pricing is quoted.
Frigade suits product-led SaaS companies with React front ends and engineers willing to own the integration, especially those who dislike how overlay-based tours look and break. It is not designed for teams that want marketers to build tours visually on any page without code; Appcues, Userpilot and Pendo serve that no-code use case, with Pendo adding product analytics at enterprise scale.
Userflow
Userflow is a product adoption platform that lets product, growth and customer success teams build in-app onboarding without engineering work. After installing a JavaScript snippet, teams use a visual flow builder to create product tours, tooltips, checklists, banners, resource centers and in-app surveys, then target them to users based on attributes and events.
The platform includes adoption analytics for flows and checklists, behavioral segmentation, localization, version history and separate environments for staging and production. FlowAI, Userflow's AI layer, helps draft and optimize experiences and powers in-app agents that answer user questions inside the product. A Userflow MCP server connects product data to AI tools. Userflow now sells Essentials ($300 a month, $240 billed annually) and Studio ($500, or $400 annually), both with 1,000 monthly active users and unlimited team seats. Studio adds the Adoption Agent, HubSpot and Salesforce sync, custom CSS and a success manager; Enterprise is custom.
Userflow fits B2B SaaS companies that want polished onboarding quickly and value a fast, clean builder. Appcues is the long-established rival with similar features, Userpilot bundles deeper product analytics, and Pendo is an enterprise suite with analytics and roadmapping at a higher price. UserGuiding is a cheaper option for very small teams.
Buying tip: costs scale with MAUs, starting at $40 a month per extra 1,000 users and falling to $10 at volume, so estimate monthly active users before choosing a plan. The 14-day trial needs no credit card.
