Descript
Descript is an audio and video editor that works like a text document. It was co-founded in San Francisco by Andrew Mason, the founder of Groupon, and grew from a transcription tool into a full editor. You record or import media, Descript transcribes it, and deleting or moving words in the transcript cuts and rearranges the underlying audio and video.
The editor supports multitrack timelines, screen and webcam recording, remote recording, scenes and layouts, captions and templates. AI tools include Studio Sound, which removes noise and echo, filler word and silence removal, Eye Contact correction, green screen, AI voices and Overdub, which clones your voice to fix words after recording; that technology came from the 2019 acquisition of Lyrebird. Underlord, the AI co-editor, can perform multi-step edits, create clips, write titles and show notes, and translate or dub content from plain instructions. Plans are tiered by transcription hours, export resolution and AI usage, from a free plan with limited hours and 720p export to Hobbyist, Creator and Business, with Creator as the most balanced option.
Descript fits podcasters, educators, marketers and YouTubers whose videos are mostly spoken word. It does not replace Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or After Effects when you need detailed colour work or motion graphics, large projects can feel slow, and plan limits on AI features need watching. Riverside combines recording with text-based editing, CapCut is cheaper for short social videos, and Adobe Premiere Pro now also offers text-based editing.
Invideo AI
Invideo AI is an AI video creation and editing platform from Invideo, founded in 2017 by Sanket Shah, Harsh Vakharia and Pankit Chheda, with roots in Mumbai and a US base. The company has raised about $52.5 million from investors including Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia India) and Tiger Global. Invideo AI launched in 2023 as a text-to-video tool that writes a script, picks stock footage, adds a voiceover and subtitles, and assembles a finished video from one prompt.
The product now calls itself an agentic video editor. Agent Two logs your footage and edits on request, a timeline editor supports multiplayer editing, and a storyboard and script co-writer plan shots. It bundles third-party generative models such as Google Veo 3.1, Sora 2, Kling and Seedance for video, Nano Banana for images, and ElevenLabs voices, plus voice cloning and avatars. Plans are now sold per seat with monthly credits: Basic, Pro and Ultra, plus Business tiers.
Invideo AI fits YouTubers, social media marketers and small teams that need explainer and faceless videos fast. Credits burn quickly with premium models, and pricing has changed several times in 2026. Synthesia and HeyGen are stronger for realistic avatar presenters, while VEED is better for manual editing and subtitles.
Buying tip: credits are allocated per seat, expire monthly and do not roll over except on Enterprise. Annual prices changed more than once in October 2026 and now carry a 50% promotional discount, so test on the free plan, then buy one month before committing to a year.
