Copy.ai
Copy.ai is an AI platform for go-to-market teams, founded in 2020 by Paul Yacoubian and Chris Lu. It launched as one of the first AI copywriting tools built on GPT-3 and later repositioned from a writing assistant into a platform for automating sales and marketing work with AI workflows.
The chat interface works with several large language models, brand voice settings and an Infobase of company knowledge for ad-hoc writing and research. Workflows are the core product: they chain AI steps with data from CRMs, enrichment providers, websites and documents to run repeatable processes such as researching accounts, writing personalized outreach, repurposing webinars into blog posts and social content, summarizing deals and generating ad variations. Workflows can run on schedules, triggers or in bulk on tables, and integrations include HubSpot and Salesforce. Chat covers unlimited chat for small teams, while Growth, Expansion, Scale and Enterprise add workflow credits, seats and API access.
Copy.ai suits sales and marketing operations teams that want to standardize AI-assisted tasks across a team rather than rely on individual prompting. Workflow credits add cost, output quality depends on the data fed in, and many former copywriting users found general assistants such as ChatGPT or Claude sufficient after the pivot. Clay is stronger for data-heavy outbound enrichment, Jasper remains focused on marketing content, and n8n or Zapier can build similar automations for technical teams.
In October 2025 Copy.ai was acquired by Fullcast, a revenue operations software company.
Surfer
Surfer, often called Surfer SEO, is a content optimization platform founded in Poland in 2017. It analyzes the pages that currently rank for a keyword and turns that analysis into concrete guidance for writers: which terms and entities to cover, how many headings and words to aim for, and how the draft scores against competitors in real time inside the Content Editor.
The platform also audits existing URLs to reveal missing topics and other on-page gaps, builds topical maps that cluster keywords into content plans, generates AI-written drafts that already follow the guidelines, and offers an AI Tracker that monitors how a brand appears in AI search answers. Integrations with Google Docs and WordPress let writers work in familiar tools. Plans are subscriptions sized by documents, tracked pages, AI prompts and seats, from Discovery through Standard and Pro to Peace of Mind, plus Enterprise with SSO.
Surfer suits content teams, agencies and freelance writers producing SEO articles at volume who need consistent briefs and optimization. Following the score blindly can lead to formulaic, keyword-heavy text, and it does not cover technical SEO or backlinks, which remain the domain of Screaming Frog, Ahrefs and Semrush. Clearscope is a pricier alternative favored by editorial teams, Frase combines research and briefs at a lower cost, and NeuronWriter is a budget option for individual writers.
