Claude

Claude is the AI assistant from Anthropic, the San Francisco AI safety and research company founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei, Daniela Amodei and other former OpenAI researchers. It is known for careful, well-structured writing, strong reasoning over long documents and reliable coding, and it is available on the web, desktop apps for Mac and Windows, and mobile apps.

In the apps, Projects keep files and instructions as persistent context, Artifacts render documents, code and small interactive apps beside the chat, and Claude can search the web, run deep research, analyze uploaded files, and connect to Google Workspace, Slack and other tools through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard Anthropic introduced in 2024. Claude Code brings the same models to the terminal and IDE as an agentic coding tool. Plans range from a free tier with daily limits to Pro, Max for heavy users, Team with central admin and Enterprise with SSO, audit logs and compliance controls. Developers access the models through the Claude API and major cloud platforms such as Amazon Bedrock and Google Cloud Vertex AI.

Claude fits writers, analysts, lawyers, researchers and developers who work with long material and want precise instruction-following. It does not generate images or video natively, and usage limits on lower plans can be reached during intensive sessions. ChatGPT offers a broader consumer feature set including image generation and voice, Gemini integrates deeply with Google services, and many professionals keep two assistants for different strengths.

Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft Copilot is the umbrella name for Microsoft's AI assistants. The free Copilot app runs on Windows, Edge, iOS, Android and the web with chat, image generation and web-grounded answers, while Microsoft 365 Copilot is the paid business add-on that works inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams and is grounded in an organization's emails, files, chats and meetings through Microsoft Graph.

In business tenants it drafts and rewrites documents, analyzes spreadsheets in natural language, builds presentations from existing files, summarizes long email threads and produces Teams meeting recaps with action items, all within existing permissions and enterprise data protection. Copilot Studio lets organizations build custom agents connected to internal systems and data. Packaging is layered: the free consumer Copilot, Copilot inside Microsoft 365 Personal, Family and Premium subscriptions, free Copilot Chat for business users, and the per-user Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

For companies standardized on Microsoft 365 it is the most natural enterprise assistant, but the add-on is expensive, results depend on clean permissions and well-organized SharePoint content, and quality varies between apps. Google Workspace teams will get more from Gemini, and individuals who mainly want a strong general assistant often prefer ChatGPT or Claude. Most organizations run a pilot group, measure real usage and then license only the roles that benefit most.
