Carrd

Carrd is a builder for simple, responsive one-page websites: landing pages, personal profiles, link-in-bio pages, portfolios, waitlists and event pages. It is built and run by a single independent developer, known as AJ, who also created the HTML5 UP template collection, and it has stayed deliberately small and focused for years.

The editor works with sections, containers and elements on a single page, with fine-grained control over typography, spacing and backgrounds, and a library of clean templates. The free plan allows up to three sites on a carrd.co subdomain. Paid plans are billed yearly rather than monthly: Pro Lite removes Carrd branding and unlocks premium carrd.co addresses, Pro Standard adds custom domains with SSL, forms that connect to Mailchimp, Kit, Formspree and other services, plus embeds, widgets such as Stripe and PayPal buttons and Google Analytics, and Pro Plus adds advanced site settings, more sites and the option to download a site's source files. Even the top plan costs less per year than many builders charge per month.

Carrd is ideal for indie makers, freelancers and early-stage startups who need a polished single page in an afternoon. Its limits are structural: there is no CMS, no blog, no real multi-page navigation and no team collaboration, and interactions and animations are basic. When a project needs several pages, Framer and Webflow are the usual next steps; Linktree is simpler for pure link lists, and Squarespace or Wix suit small businesses that want a full site with commerce.

Jimdo

Jimdo is a website builder from Hamburg, Germany, founded in 2007 by Christian Springub, Fridtjof Detzner and Matthias Henze. It was one of the first hosted site builders aimed at non-technical small business owners and has been used to create millions of sites. Its core job is getting a small business, freelancer or club online with a clean site, a domain and, if needed, a small shop.

Jimdo offers two editors. The AI-assisted builder asks a few questions and generates a site with text and images that you then adjust in a simple block editor, while the Creator editor gives more design freedom and code access. Both include mobile-friendly templates, SEO settings, contact forms, built-in statistics and listings for local search. The online store supports product variants, discounts and payments through PayPal and Stripe without commission, and Jimdo says shops work best with up to about 100 products. Plans run from a free tier with a Jimdo subdomain to Start, Grow and Unlimited for websites and separate online store tiers.

Jimdo fits sole traders, consultants, therapists, trades and local shops that want a site live in an afternoon. Wix and Squarespace offer far more design freedom and apps, Hostinger Website Builder is cheaper with hosting included, and Shopify is the better choice once a store grows beyond a small catalog.

In mid-2026 Jimdo added a top Unlimited plan at $49.50 a month with 500 GB of storage and faster premium support. Prices are lowest on 12- or 24-month terms and Jimdo renders them by region, so check the price shown at checkout before choosing a term.
