Buy Me a Coffee

Buy Me a Coffee is a creator support platform launched in 2018 that gives writers, artists, podcasters, developers and other creators a simple page where fans can send a one-off tip framed as buying a coffee. It grew into a lightweight monetization toolkit while keeping the setup measured in minutes rather than days.

Beyond one-off support, creators can offer monthly or yearly memberships with tiers, sell digital extras such as files, presets, e-books or calls, publish posts for supporters or members, and add a floating button or widget to an existing website. Discord integration grants roles to paying members, and payouts run through Stripe or PayPal. There is no subscription fee; the platform takes a 5% fee on earnings, and payment processor fees are charged on top.

It fits creators who want the lowest-friction way to accept support and do not need a full course, community or website platform. The trade-offs are limited page design, basic analytics and a fee that becomes noticeable at higher volumes. Ko-fi is the closest alternative and takes no platform fee on simple donations; Patreon is better known for recurring memberships and has a discovery audience; Memberful and Ghost suit creators who want memberships on their own site. Open-source maintainers often use it alongside GitHub Sponsors.

Kreosus

Kreosus is a crowdfunding and membership platform for content creators, built for the Turkish market. It is developed by Tree of Evolution LLC, the Texas-based company with Turkish roots behind the science outlet Evrim Ağacı, whose founder Çağrı Mert Bakırcı leads the project. Its core job is to let followers support creators with monthly subscriptions or one-time payments, in Turkish lira or major foreign currencies.

Creators set up a profile, define membership tiers with rewards, share supporter-only posts and use an embed code to collect support from their own website. A control panel shows earnings, commission, deductions and supporters in real time. Failed recurring charges are retried automatically. Kreosus is free to join: the platform fee starts at 0% and rises in steps (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%) to a 10% cap as a creator's lifetime earnings grow, and card processing costs 2.9 to 3.9% plus $0.30 per transaction. The site says more than 1,500 creators use it, including Evrim Ağacı, Doğruluk Payı, Teyit and Akademiklink.

Kreosus suits Turkish creators, independent media and nonprofits whose audiences prefer paying in lira on a Turkish interface. Patreon offers a far larger global audience and tooling, Buy Me a Coffee and Ko-fi are simpler for international tips, and none of them charge in TRY with a Turkish-first experience.

Buying tip: the 0% starting fee makes it cheap to test, but plan for 10% at scale. Have your bank and invoicing details ready, since payouts require them.
