Apidog

Apidog is an all-in-one API development platform that puts design, debugging, testing, mocking and documentation in one tool, so a team works from a single OpenAPI-based source of truth instead of passing specs between Swagger, Postman and a docs site. It runs in the browser and as desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, and it markets itself directly as a cheaper Postman alternative.

Designers build endpoints and JSON Schemas in a visual editor; developers send requests over HTTP, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, SOAP and SSE with Postman-compatible scripts; QA builds visual test scenarios, scheduled runs and performance tests; schema-driven mocks need no code; and interactive docs publish with custom domains. Sprint branches, Git connection, a CLI for CI/CD and self-hosted runners round it out. The free plan covers up to four users; Basic, Professional and Enterprise are billed per member, and documentation readers are free.

It fits teams that want to replace Postman plus a separate docs and mock tool. Stoplight and Redocly are stronger for pure design governance, ReadMe and Mintlify produce more polished public developer portals, and Postman has the larger ecosystem. Apidog's mock and docs features are less mature for large public API programs.

Recent releases focus on AI: an MCP server that feeds API specs to Cursor and other AI editors, an MCP client and AI agent debugger, AI test case generation and schema compliance checks. Apidog also offers an EU data region and an on-premises edition. Import a Postman collection during the 14-day trial to compare.

Speakeasy

Speakeasy is a San Francisco developer tools company founded in 2022 by Sagar Batchu and Simon Yu. It raised a $15 million Series A led by FPV Ventures in October 2024, with GV and Quiet Capital participating. Its original core job is to take an OpenAPI spec and generate idiomatic, type-safe SDKs, Terraform providers and CLIs that API companies can publish and keep in sync as the API changes.

SDK generation covers TypeScript, Python, Go, Java, C#, PHP and Ruby, with Rust and C++ coming soon. Generated code handles pagination, retries, authentication and webhooks, and a GitHub workflow regenerates and publishes packages to npm, PyPI and other registries on every spec change. In September 2025 Speakeasy launched Gram to turn APIs into hosted MCP servers, and in 2026 it repositioned around an AI control plane: agent identity synced from Okta or Entra, agent security, an MCP gateway and agent observability. Pricing is quote-based; the pricing page lists only a tailored Enterprise plan.

Speakeasy fits API-first companies that want high-quality SDKs in several languages without a dedicated SDK team, and enterprises governing how agents reach internal tools. It is not a docs portal on its own and lacks public self-serve pricing. Fern is its closest rival for SDK plus docs generation, while ReadMe and Mintlify focus on developer documentation.

Recent development: on October 13, 2026 Speakeasy announced a Tailscale partnership that lets Enterprise customers run its MCP gateway on a private tailnet. Ask sales whether SDK-only use is priced separately from the AI control plane.
