Apidog
Apidog is an all-in-one API development platform that puts design, debugging, testing, mocking and documentation in one tool, so a team works from a single OpenAPI-based source of truth instead of passing specs between Swagger, Postman and a docs site. It runs in the browser and as desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, and it markets itself directly as a cheaper Postman alternative.
Designers build endpoints and JSON Schemas in a visual editor; developers send requests over HTTP, GraphQL, gRPC, WebSocket, SOAP and SSE with Postman-compatible scripts; QA builds visual test scenarios, scheduled runs and performance tests; schema-driven mocks need no code; and interactive docs publish with custom domains. Sprint branches, Git connection, a CLI for CI/CD and self-hosted runners round it out. The free plan covers up to four users; Basic, Professional and Enterprise are billed per member, and documentation readers are free.
It fits teams that want to replace Postman plus a separate docs and mock tool. Stoplight and Redocly are stronger for pure design governance, ReadMe and Mintlify produce more polished public developer portals, and Postman has the larger ecosystem. Apidog's mock and docs features are less mature for large public API programs.
Recent releases focus on AI: an MCP server that feeds API specs to Cursor and other AI editors, an MCP client and AI agent debugger, AI test case generation and schema compliance checks. Apidog also offers an EU data region and an on-premises edition. Import a Postman collection during the 14-day trial to compare.
Hoppscotch
Hoppscotch is an open-source API platform and a popular Postman alternative. Liyas Thomas started it in 2019 as a lightweight browser-based project called Postwoman, and it grew into Hoppscotch, now with more than 80,000 GitHub stars under the MIT license. It raised a $3 million seed round led by OSS Capital, with Automattic participating. Its core job is letting developers send and test API requests quickly in the browser, on the desktop or self-hosted.
Hoppscotch supports REST, GraphQL, WebSocket, Server-Sent Events, Socket.IO and MQTT. Requests live in nested collections with environments, pre-request scripts and tests, and a collection runner and CLI run them in CI. Desktop apps cover macOS, Windows and Linux. The free plan includes personal workspaces; Business adds team workspaces, real-time collaboration, published API docs, mocking and MCP server support, and Enterprise adds SSO, SCIM, role-based access and audit logs. A self-hosted Community edition is free.
Hoppscotch fits developers and teams who want a fast, clean API client without Postman's weight, and companies that must keep API data on their own servers. It has a smaller integration ecosystem than Postman, fewer governance features for large API programs, and advanced mocking and docs need a paid plan. Postman remains the broadest platform, Apidog bundles design and testing, and Scalar is stronger for reference docs.
Version 2026.9.0, released in September 2026, introduced the Enterprise Cloud tier and, for Enterprise Self-Host, an AI Assistant that edits and runs requests and manages collections.
