Activepieces

Activepieces is an open-source automation platform, with its community edition released under the MIT license, that positions itself as a friendlier and more predictable alternative to Zapier and Make. Built by a Y Combinator-backed startup, it lets operations, marketing and product teams connect apps and automate repetitive work through a visual flow builder, while developers extend it with TypeScript 'pieces' that become reusable integrations.

Flows support branches, loops, code steps, approval steps that wait for a human, and AI steps that call language models or run agents. The catalog covers 280+ pieces, and those pieces are also exposed as MCP tools so AI agents can act on connected apps. You can self-host the community edition for free with Docker, use credit-based cloud plans that range from a free tier to Plus and Team, or license an embed edition that puts white-labeled automation inside your own SaaS product.

Activepieces fits startups and mid-size teams that want automation with predictable costs, and SaaS companies that want an embeddable integration layer. Its catalog is far smaller than Zapier's thousands of apps, so niche integrations may need a custom piece or an HTTP step. n8n offers more raw power and a larger self-hosted community but a steeper learning curve and a fair-code license; Make is inexpensive in the cloud but proprietary; Zapier remains the easiest choice when breadth of integrations is the only priority.

SmartMessage

SmartMessage is an omnichannel marketing platform built in Istanbul. Oğuz Küçükbarak and Emin Altın founded the company in 2005, and 212 VC invested in 2019. It sends email, SMS, mobile push, WhatsApp and Telegram messages from one place, mostly for large consumer brands and financial institutions in Türkiye, the Gulf and Eastern Europe.

The platform has five products: Campaign Manager for omnichannel campaigns, Audience Manager for segmentation and communication preferences, Journey Manager for automated customer journeys, Conversation Manager for AI chatbots, and OTP Manager for one-time passwords. Add-on modules include Michelangelo AI (generative content in a saved brand voice plus no-code chatbots), a Dynamics 365 add-on, WhatsApp Business marketing and an İYS module that syncs consent with Türkiye's commercial message registry. Pricing is quote-based, with no self-serve tier.

It fits banks, insurers, retailers and telcos that send high volumes on several channels and need local compliance. Insider offers a broader CDP and personalization suite at a higher price; Related Digital (Euromessage) is the other long-standing Turkish email player; İleti Merkezi is a simpler, self-serve SMS option for smaller teams.

The company says it serves about 500 customers in 20 countries, including İş Bankası, Migros, A101, Ford, Koç Holding and Petrol Ofisi. Release 2.11 added Telegram, geofenced push and email OTP with SMS or push fallback.
