Acast
Acast is a podcast hosting and monetization company founded in Stockholm, Sweden, and listed on Nasdaq First North. Its core job is to host shows, distribute them to Apple Podcasts, Spotify and every other directory, and then turn listens into revenue through one of the largest podcast advertising marketplaces in the world.
The free Starter plan covers hosting and distribution. Paid tiers (Essential, Pro and Video) add multiple shows, unlimited episodes, team management, a publishing API and video publishing to Apple Podcasts. Acast inserts dynamic ads sold by its own sales teams and programmatic partners into back catalog episodes, so older episodes keep earning. Acast+ lets creators sell premium subscriptions with bonus or ad-free episodes, and sponsorship tools connect shows with brands directly.
Acast fits independent and network podcasters for whom advertising is the business model and who want access to advertisers they could not reach alone. The trade-off is a revenue share on ads and less control over which ads appear. Transistor is a better choice for companies running private or branded shows, Buzzsprout is simpler for hobbyists, and Spotify for Creators offers free hosting tied closely to Spotify. For shows with real audiences that want to be paid, Acast remains one of the strongest options.
Podbean
Podbean is a podcast hosting and monetization platform launched in 2006, which makes it one of the oldest services in the market. Podbean Tech LLC says more than 600,000 podcasters have used it. Its core job is to host audio and video episodes, generate the RSS feed and podcast website, and distribute shows to Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music and other apps.
Paid plans are flat monthly fees with unlimited storage: Unlimited Audio for one audio show, Unlimited Plus for two shows with video, Network for unlimited shows and up to 50 team members, and Business for private internal podcasts. The free Basic plan gives 5 hours of total storage and 100 GB of bandwidth a month. Monetization includes PodAds dynamic ad insertion, an ads marketplace for sponsorships, Patron fan support, premium paid episodes and Apple Podcasts Subscriptions. AI tools clean up audio and draft transcripts, show notes and chapters.
Podbean suits independent podcasters who want hosting, an in-app listener audience and several revenue paths for one fee. The dashboard looks dated, monthly upload caps apply even with unlimited storage, and paid plans cannot be downgraded to free. Buzzsprout is simpler for beginners, Spotify for Creators is free with Spotify-native features, and Transistor or Captivate suit multi-show brands that want clean analytics.
Buying tip: annual billing cuts prices by 20 to 29 percent, bringing Unlimited Audio from $17 to $12 a month. Pick a plan by monthly upload size (1 GB versus 10 GB) rather than storage; only Network caps bandwidth, at 3 TB a month.
