1Password

1Password is a password manager for individuals, families and businesses, made by AgileBits, a company founded in 2005 in Toronto, Canada. It is known for a strong security track record, polished apps on every major platform and a design that makes good password habits easy for non-technical people.

1Password stores passwords, passkeys, credit cards, secure notes, documents, SSH keys and software licenses in encrypted vaults that can be shared with family members or colleagues. Data is protected by end-to-end encryption that combines your account password with a locally generated Secret Key. Watchtower flags weak, reused and breached credentials and sites that support passkeys or two-factor authentication, and Travel Mode hides selected vaults when crossing borders. For businesses, plans add SSO with Okta, Microsoft Entra ID and Google Workspace, admin policies, activity reporting, provisioning and free Families accounts for employees. Developer tools include a CLI, an SSH agent, Git commit signing and Secrets Automation for infrastructure. Extended Access Management, built partly on the 2024 acquisition of Kolide, adds device trust and discovery of unmanaged apps.

1Password fits households and companies that want strong security with excellent usability. There is no free plan, only a trial. Bitwarden is the leading open-source alternative with a free tier, Proton Pass suits privacy-focused users, and Dashlane and Keeper compete in the business market.

Veeam

Veeam is a data resilience vendor founded in 2006 by Ratmir Timashev and Andrei Baronov, originally known for backing up VMware virtual machines. Insight Partners bought the company in 2020 in a deal valued at about $5 billion, and it is now headquartered in Seattle. Veeam says it protects data for more than 550,000 customers, including 82% of the Fortune 500, and IDC ranked it first in worldwide data protection software market share for the second half of 2025.

The core product, Veeam Data Platform (version 13.1 at the time of writing), backs up and restores VMs on VMware, Hyper-V and Proxmox, physical Windows and Linux servers, NAS and cloud workloads in AWS, Azure and Google Cloud. Editions stack: Foundation covers backup, immutability and instant recovery; Advanced adds monitoring and AI threat detection; Premium adds orchestrated recovery and compliance reporting. Veeam Data Cloud is the SaaS line for Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Salesforce, Kasten protects Kubernetes and Coveware handles ransomware response. A free Community Edition covers up to 10 workloads.

Veeam fits IT teams running mixed on-prem and cloud infrastructure who need reliable restores and ransomware-ready, immutable backups. Acronis bundles endpoint security for MSPs, Druva is fully SaaS with no servers to run, and Keepit focuses on SaaS app backup. Veeam is the most complete, but it needs infrastructure skills to deploy well.

Recent development: in December 2025 Veeam closed its $1.725 billion purchase of Securiti AI, adding data security posture management, privacy and AI governance.
